ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Malayalam is offered as one of the Part-I language options under the undergraduate curriculum. Students who choose Malayalam as their Part-I language — from any department of the college, whether Science, Commerce, Arts, Business Administration or Computer Applications — study it alongside their core discipline as a foundational language component of their degree.

The programme is designed to strengthen students' command of Malayalam grammar, composition and vocabulary, while deepening their engagement with Malayalam literature and culture. It supports students in reading, writing and communicating effectively — a skill set valuable not only academically but throughout their professional lives.

As the college serves the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border region, the department plays a vital role in sustaining linguistic and cultural continuity for students who opt for Malayalam. Through the study of classical and modern Malayalam literature, students engage with the region's heritage and its contemporary voices.
