Introduction
The Department of Commerce was established on 16th June 2008, with the first batch of B.Com (Computer Application) consisting of 45 students and two teaching faculty. It was upgraded with the PG programme of M.Com (Computer Application) in June 2014. From the academic year 2017 onwards, the department has been functioning as general Commerce without the specialization of Computer Application. The department achieved its greatest height by upgrading itself as a Research Centre in Commerce from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli during 2021-22.
The Department’s unique features include industry exposure programmes, curriculum aligned with contemporary business practices that support employability, professional practice, and live project-based learning experiences. The objective is "To create young talented Commerce professionals" and to insist on quality research in the fields of Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Banking, Human Resource Management, and beyond. The teaching-learning processes have created excellent placement opportunities for our students as Managers, Accountants, Quality Analysts, Entrepreneurs, and Assistant Professors.
A legacy of excellence: Since its inception, the department has produced around 600 graduates, 90 students have obtained M.Com degree, and 14 scholars are pursuing Ph.D in thrust areas such as Finance, Banking, Marketing, HRM, E‑Commerce, Financial Services, Entrepreneurship, Rural Development and Economic Empowerment.
